Off to be Sand blasted.....

Well the time has come to have the shell blasted bij our local sandblasting company.

Trailer sides off and huppa...

Made a few pics of the shell to compare before/after sandblasting.
Alot of people ask what will remain of the mini once it has  being sand blasted ?

Mini just lifts with one person on to the trailer and slides against the head board.
Not heavy at all really just a little awkward.

Will have to see what comes back from sand blasting ? if the flitch and door jams need replacing or not ?

This side has had a bit more welding on the right side than the left.

This isnt going to fall off in a hurry.

Next photosof the shell  should be of a sand blasted shell !

Sill removal

Thought I would get the rusty sills off and rear lower valance ready for the new ones.
Got the mini off the small trolley and pushed it on its side on the old tyres being carefull where I placed the tyres not to dent the panels.
At a first glance it all looks like what the most people would call a hard mini !
However everybody that has ever owned or worked on a mini will know beter !

Outer sill doesnt look all that bad from here either.

Taadaaa, hard mini indeed .. someone had once welded part of a new fromt outer sill over the rusty sill causing this ... Always remove the rust never patch over ..

Anyway after the rain always comes sun, the reest wasnt to bad and will be removed for new sills.

Old sill removing wasnt to bad approx 40 minuten per side.
Just sliced and diced along the seem with the door step pull down the sill slice in to bits and drill a few spot welds out.

Looking at this its going to be an outer sill job left and right and an inner front sill and floor pannels left and right also most likely doing the door jam and flitch panels too.

inside isnt looking rusty really.

Although you cant really see from this photo the side of a mini is slightly rounded.

Unfortuneatley someone over the years has patched things up not removing the rust.

Rear lower valanc..

Rear lower valance corner closing panel and boot floor is looking tired.

After slicing the rear lower valance off it revealed more panel work which will need tweaking..
