Exhaust and tank take out (Owen)

Owen then realised that I had gone about this all wrong and hadnt even taken off the exhaust from onder the car ! "So dad time to take out the exhaust...

Whilst I am on I can better take out the old mans petrol tank too,,,
Firstly I removed the anker bolt then emptied the last 5 litre
stale petrol out under the car in a jerry can.

Removed here the fuel gage wires..

No problems dad..

Owen and the light buckets.

After lunch it was time for Owen to come and inspect if we were all working as hard as he did before lunch ? errr....☝
Owen was kind enough to point out that I had forgot the plastic grommits in the front end ..and ofcourse the indicator back plates. and wiring..

See dad this is what you forgot..

Louis and Vienna removing everything that was loose.

Whilst I maneged the removal of the front lights Louis and Vienna removed everything they could with a screw driver that wasnt to rusted.

It does look like child labour in a boot camp behind bars but its not !
Its just on the drive take from behind the fence honest 👀

Thanks girls for all your help you 2 did a great job !

Star is born

Taadaaaa Louis is ready and willing to help out daddy !
Where is the other half of the twins?

Dad !! whilst your pulling out the front lights
I am going to remove theses stainless wheel flares.

This is how you do it dad..

Front lights removal turned out to be
4 rivets not screws per light !
Drill them out and huppa...

Lights in lights out..

light further removal and wiring.

After Owen got tired and decided this all looks like to much like very hard work and a bit to dirty too he decided time for a bit of lunch and went off to see his mam in doors.
Meanwhile not being a sucker for asking for help, decided to check out the chicks and see if they would help out ?

Whilst waiting on an answer from the chickys
decided to remove the other rear light.
4x screws/nuts and a few wires at the back which had been connected with a shitty block connector and out it flew.

Lights gone !
Bumpers fell pretty much off even though thet look reasonable on the outside thet were a bit dodgy on the inside especially by the rusty bolts.

Helpers

Because I dont have days on end at a time or even hours on end at a time it was time I called in the cavallery and got my self some serious help for the long journey ahead of demolition.

Owen began to screw out the non original transparent jewel lights

soon we realised you need a spanner on the back end to hold the nut from turning x 4.

Engine removal 1000cc

New years resoloution !

"Out with the old, in with the new"
Well out with the old for now anyway.

Old yellow 1100cc engine with expolded clutch.
Out with the old..
"Be gone evil spirit"

Check out the new lifting jig !
cant complain at 20 euros.
You can even adjust the balance with the screw
 and windy thingy ma jiggy..

New engine lift.

After having a bit of a further gander it was time to start pulling it apart.
Started with this HS4 Carb with standard in let manifold.

Then after popping down the shops and seeing a new toy (engine lift) for a 100 euro, I thought buy this for me and my father inlaw Wiel as we can both make good use of it.
By the Sprite I made I rented an engine lift , but it looking back I should have just bought one !
For a 100 euro you just cant complain.

Having a gander

The Engine looks very sad under the rust and more rust.
There was once a chrome rocker cover in their somewhere !

Even the coil and dynamo is looking very old and weatherd.

Radiator is not something I will be using again !
After standing for years even it doesent leak now it may leak tommorow.
I am looking to build a reliable mini that I can drive from Holland to London to do

After letting the boys give it a good looking over and having a bit of a climb over it was time to take a closer look.

"Look dad, this is how this works"

The New Project ! Mini Special 1978

The New Project !

Mini Special 1978

After walking past a  mustard yellow mini with dark windows and a body kit whilst at school in Newcastle (UK) many years ago,  my interest in mini's began to develop. Having restored the Austin healey Sprite mk 3  www.superspridget.blogspot.com I decided time for a new project ! Having 2 sons and not wanting a fight when they arrive at driving age I thought why not..
Recently I saw my chance on a local auction site for a mini special 1100 and decided to go for it.
After discussing a reasonable price I thought, my father in law and I went to collect the mini !
Got the trailer out and drove to the customer to collect what we had discussed.
Here are a few pictures.

Almost directly my boys took a liking to it..

All the chrome seems to be in pretty good condition,
apart from the dint in the rear bumper.

Old 1970's/80's Minilite GB wheels.

Shame about the front left wing.

Rust..

Nice front grill, dont know what the rubber bungs
are in the bonnet.
