Surgery begins
Well it was time to start having a closer look at the mini and try and work out where to start ?
Taking in to consideration it had been at least a year since i touched a welding machine,
I wanted to start on something relatively easy.
So without no further a do I started cutting !
Firstley the boot floor !
What you cant see in the photo is that the boot floor where i have cut out
is curved so getting to fit is not quite as easy as a flat piece of metal.
Never the less not difficult really.
A furthe bit of trimming so he will fit properly and I can tack it in place.
Corners of the boot floor are famous for rotting out are also on my mini in poor shape too.
I have contemplated using the whole rear boot floor panel and have decided to keep as much original metal as possible.
Closing panels are a bit nastier than than the photo protrays..
After a bit of cutting and testing my long not used welder I decided to make an incision in the corner.
Also looking at a bit of steel plate to plug the whole.
Soon followed a bit of corner repair. One of the many things I learned from my father in law
Once you start if you keep your eyes open one job needs doing after another finding a sort of follow order where jobs need to be done in making life logical and easyier.
Welder still works any way ..
So you see the external corner under the light needs doing before you can place in the metal on the corner of the boot floor. This is the sort of follow order that you have to discover and work with.
Not being a welder or ever claiming to be this didnt go down to badly.

Blasted and home sweet home.
Looking good in the daylight !
The mini wasnt going to fall off anytime soon with my best double
alfred hitchcock knott ;-)
The sandblasting revealed all the previous welding work and holes left by the rust
which really isnt very bad at all I think.
Even the engine bay is now nice and clean and ready to crack on with work.
Interior looking pretty clean, will be a pleasure to do some surgery on !
Tommorow I will get some pics on of the doors and boot and bonnet lid.
Then down to the nit and gritty cut and welding work.
Sandblasted !
After bringing the mini shell to the sandblasters last Saturday I could collect
it today after getting a call it was ready. So got on the phone to my very kind parents in-law
and asked if i could borrow their van and trailer once again.
Got the van and trailer and zoomed off to get the mini shell !
When I arrived at the sandblasting company their he was waiting for me and
much to my very pleasant surprise their was stil alot of mini left over !
After a bit of a check the hole's from the rust really werent as bad as I thought they
would be.
The guys at the sanblasters were very thourough yet carefull with their work leaving the side panels
and roof to be done by hand not wanting to misform the panels due to heat and pressure in the blast cabin.

Engine Build and paint
After a bit of a doo tried some engine green paint I had in the garage.
Should have done the welder as well ;-)
Clutch housing and lid have been severly wire brushed and painted.
After a bit of drying the block went off to a guy got skimmed and honed.
Yeah should have painted the engine after this..

Off to be Sand blasted.....
Well the time has come to have the shell blasted bij our local sandblasting company.
Trailer sides off and huppa...
Made a few pics of the shell to compare before/after sandblasting.
Alot of people ask what will remain of the mini once it has being sand blasted ?
Mini just lifts with one person on to the trailer and slides against the head board.
Not heavy at all really just a little awkward.
Will have to see what comes back from sand blasting ? if the flitch and door jams need replacing or not ?
This side has had a bit more welding on the right side than the left.
This isnt going to fall off in a hurry.
Next photosof the shell should be of a sand blasted shell !
